2005 - Avail Technologies began this project by performing the initial needs assessment and developing a technology adoption plan. The four primary goals identified through this process included acquiring ITS technologies to aid VVTA in the development of a new premium paratransit service and to improve the ADA service currently offered by VVTA. Improve the efficiency of the fixed route service by increasing the effectiveness of communications between operators, dispatchers, and customer service personnel
2006 - In support of these goals VVTA is acquiring the following technologies in multiple phases. Matching the goals with the technologies and available funding, Avail recommended the following acquisition strategy for VVTA’s ITS program which is currently underway. Demand Response upgrade of the existing Computer Aided Reservations, Scheduling and Dispatch for ADA and Premium Paratransit services and Mobile Data Computers with Automatic Vehicle Location for the ADA / Premium Paratransit Services fleet.
Future acquisitions will include Fixed Route Service Upgrades which will include a new Phone System Computer Aided Dispatch /Automatic Vehicle Location for Fixed Route Wayside Information Signage, Automatic Passenger Counters, Management Information System for Reporting and Automatic Stop Announcements.
