2000 - CATA along with three other Pennsylvania transit agencies began working with Avail Technologies as a beta customer on the development of our Intelli-Fare software product. CATA staff provided Avail Technologies with input and direction for the reporting needs of small-to-medium sized transit properties. The Intelli-Fare software product was designed to help properties get the most out of the vast amount of data that is being collected by an electronic farebox collection system and make it easily accessible. Avail’s Intelli-Fare provides extensive exception capabilities to make the data more accurate, then makes this data easily accessible providing user friendly yet powerful ridership and revenue reporting, data mining, and analysis tools for management and operational personnel. This project was funded in part by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and is now being utilized by customers nationwide.
2002 – CATA hired Avail to team with another consultant to assist with a Traffic Signal Priority Feasibility Study
2003 – CATA teamed with Avail and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation once again to add new capabilities to Avail’s Intelli-Fare product as a part of a technology grant program meant to foster creative and forward-thinking applications of technology to transit. The resulting capabilities added to Intelli-Fare include an automated data mining function where a property can define the data trends that are meaningful to them and have Intelli-Fare automatically mine the data during non-peak hours and email appropriate management with alerts when action needs to be taken. Within one week of deployment, Intelli-Fare actually alerted staff to vehicle over capacity issues on certain routes at the start of a service change, allowing CATA to proactively resolve the issue by reallocating resources to those routes.
2005 – CATA currently has Avail under contract to be the System Integrator for a number of pending ITS procurements.
