1999 – RVT contracted with Avail to develop a passenger information system for the under development Trade and Transit Center in downtown Williamsport. This was Avail’s first official contract and the result was a bottom-up design, development, and finally deployment of what would become our Traveler Information System (TIS). This system provides passengers with real-time arrival, departure, and bay information via electronic signage and public audio announcements throughout the Transit Center. In addition to directing the arriving and departing passengers to the correct bay, this system also records all activity and provides a management console that allows staff to monitor live activity at the Transit Center from the main office location, as well as provide reports of on-time arrival and departure information for assessment of operational performance.
2000 – RVT along with three other Pennsylvania transit agencies began working with Avail Technologies as a beta customer on the development of our Intelli-Fare software product. RVT staff provided Avail Technologies with input and direction for the reporting needs of small-to-medium sized transit properties. The Intelli-Fare software product was designed to help properties get the most out of the vast amount of data that is being collected by an electronic farebox collection system and make it easily accessible. Avail’s Intelli-Fare provides extensive exception capabilities to make the data more accurate, then makes this data easily accessible providing user friendly yet powerful ridership and revenue reporting, data mining, and analysis tools for management and operational personnel. This project was funded in part by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and is now being utilized by customers nationwide.
2001 – RVT contracted with Avail for a two vehicle pilot installation to expand the Traveler Information System functionality within the vehicle by integrating Avail’s Automated Next Stop Annunciation system. The resulting system provides ADA-compliant visual and auditory automated next stop announcements to riding passengers. Two subsequent vehicle purchases in 2003 and 2004 expanded Avail’s Automated Next Stop Annunciation system to a total of six buses
2006 – RVT has contracted with Avail to expand their Traveler Information System, further building upon their technology investment with a goal of maximizing the reuse of existing systems while adding important new capabilities, including real-time CAD/AVL and Automated Next Stop Annunciation across the entire fleet.
